Maxwell (Max) - in many ways Max is your typical Basset. He loves food, he loves to play, he loves to sleep, more than anything in life, he loves to go on walks, or runs are even better. And he loves dog parks.
Max is an awesome dog. He is sweet and affectionate. He goes to the dog park and doggie day care often and has always gotten along with the other dogs. So in groups he does really well. In a home, it would be best if he was an only dog or had a girlfriend. He loves the lady’s. And if you or your partner is a runner, you are in luck! We have ourselves a running basset!
Once he gets settled in, he is a great couch potato and will watch any movie or marathon TV series you have on, preferably, after his walk/run.
In other ways, aside from the running, Max is a very atypical Basset, who had a pretty hard life before coming to the rescue. He was 28lbs, when we picked him up, he is close to 50 lbs now. Maybe as a result of getting so thin, the thinnest his foster mom has ever seen, he has food issues. He will get aggressive if food is around. He has taught his foster mom not to leave food or treats lying around, to pick up food bowls when every dog is done eating, to keep him out of the kitchen while cooking and to keep him separated from dogs and people during meal times; baby gate works great in that situation.
We don’t know his history, but he was obviously on his own for a long time. It takes him a while to settle in and he guards his sleep space. His perfect home would be one without kids, with someone who can give him the exercise he needs and someone who has the patience to know it will take a few weeks or more for his personality to really come through.
We love him at NTBHR and want him to get placed in the perfect home. Max deserves it.
